Freiburg Munster

The Freiburg Munster, situated in Munsterplatz (Cathedral Square) is the most famous building in Freiburg. It was built in three stages: the first beginning in 1120, the second in 1210, and the third in 1230. The cathedral combines styles from distinct architectural periods including the Gothic, Romanesque, and Renaissance. I was particularly intrigued by the following information. It survived the bombing raids of November 1944 which destroyed all of the houses on the west and north side of the market. The tower's survival of the severe vibrations from the bombings is attributed to lead anchors which connect the sections of the spire. The windows had been taken out at the time and also remain undamaged.

After walking inside and around the Munster, we again enjoyed some ice cream. I've been surprised at the reasonable prices for a cone - always well under 1 Euro. It's a tasty splurge for the boys.
