Crathes Castle

This past Saturday afternoon was spent exploring the grounds around Crathes Castle. We were invited by Norman and Judy Laird who also have 3 boys. This was the perfect spot for little boys to run wild!

Daniel leads the younger guys to the walled garden.

Robert the Bruce granted the land comprising the Crathes Estate to Alexander Burnett of Leys in 1323.  Construction of the current tower house was begun in 1553 and completed in 1596.

There are 530 acres of woodlands and fields including 

nearly four acres of walled garden.

Some of the ancient topiaries are visible in the background.

Cooper was delighted with this awesome climbing area. 

We'll have to try again sometime when the limbs are not wet and slick.

Caleb didn't climb but had a great time trying to move limbs. Unfortunately most of those limbs were still attached to trees and proved immovable. Still, he struggled on.

The adventurers needed to refuel. Irn-Bru is not to be wasted, so Jude and Cooper slurped up a spill.

The afternoon ended on the adventure playground.
